150+ Cocoa Beach Elementary School Students Explore Construction Careers
More than 150 students participated in a hands-on construction and engineering career fair at Endeavour Elementary School in Cocoa Beach as part of ABC Florida East Coast’s ongoing workforce development, community outreach and industry awareness initiatives focused on introducing young students to careers in construction, engineering, skilled trades and construction technology.
The career exploration event connected approximately 82 fifth graders and 76 sixth graders with construction industry professionals, educators and trade experts through interactive demonstrations and real-world career presentations designed to highlight opportunities within Florida’s growing construction workforce.
According to Lucille Coverdale, students responded enthusiastically to the hands-on learning experiences and engaging presentations that helped expose them to future career pathways in engineering, electrical work and construction management.
Representatives from Florida Institute of Technology, including Dr. Albert Bleakley, spoke with students about careers in engineering and construction management, explaining the educational pathways and technical skills required for success in the industry.
Meanwhile, Randall Electrical representatives Brendan Bailey and Blake Petty led a live electrical circuit demonstration that allowed students to participate directly in basic electrical work activities. Participating students received Junior Electrician Certificates following the hands-on exercise.
The event reflects ABC Florida East Coast’s broader mission to strengthen the future construction workforce pipeline through early career exposure, student engagement, skilled trades education and community partnerships. By introducing students to construction careers at an early age, the organization continues working to address long-term workforce needs while promoting awareness of high-demand careers in construction, engineering and skilled trades throughout Florida.
