Coconut Creek, FL (March 31, 2026)— Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast (ABC-FEC) today announced it has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Trimmer Construction Education Fund (TCEF) to support upgrades to ABC-FEC’s training environments and help broaden access to high-quality construction education for apprentices and trainees across South Florida.
“This grant is an investment in the future of our workforce and our industry,” said Peter Dyga, President and CEO of ABC Florida East Coast. “By strengthening our training facilities and expanding our educational offerings, we are creating more opportunities for workforce expansion and workforce development so individuals may enter the construction industry and build meaningful, long-term careers.”
ABC Florida East Coast’s educational and training arm, ABC Institute (ABCI), is the largest apprenticeship provider in Florida, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the state’s freshman apprentice enrollment. Through ABCI, the chapter invests more than $3.5 million annually in construction education and training, equipping students with the skills, certifications, and hands-on experience needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry.
Funds from the Trimmer Grant will be used to modernize classrooms and training spaces, incorporate updated equipment and technology, and expand curriculum offerings to meet growing workforce demand.
The Trimmer Construction Education Fund promotes a safe, skilled, and sustainable workforce by supporting training initiatives and expanding educational opportunities in the merit shop construction industry. Established in 1971 and named after ABC’s first executive vice president, John Trimmer, the fund continues to play a vital role in developing the next generation of construction professionals.
