ABC Florida East Coast Chapter recently marked a significant milestone with its 30th Annual Handlebars for the Holidays event, celebrating three decades of bringing holiday joy to families across the Space Coast. Held in partnership with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), the event brought together ABC-FEC members, volunteers, and staff for a day centered on community impact and giving back.
The highlight of the anniversary celebration was the presentation of a $55,000 donation to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, which was received by Sheriff Wayne Ivey, a powerful reflection of ABC-FEC’s membership’s generosity and commitment. Thanks to those contributions, 241 brand-new bicycles, along with helmets and locks, were distributed to children in need, creating unforgettable moments for families throughout the community. Additional bikes will continue to be delivered through School Resource Officers and the Sheriff’s Office to extend the program’s reach even further.
Since its inception in 1995, more than 10,000 children have received their first bicycle through Handlebars for the Holidays. Many of them might not otherwise have had that opportunity. What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into a cornerstone, member-driven initiative that embodies the spirit of the season and underscores ABC-FEC’s belief that building strong communities is just as crucial as building successful projects.
