Meta and Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) have announced the launch of America’s Workforce Academy, a $115 million workforce development initiative designed to train thousands of new construction professionals and help meet the growing demand for skilled labor driven by the rapid expansion of data centers across the United States.
The program combines accelerated training, industry-recognized safety education, and direct employment opportunities, creating a pathway for individuals seeking careers in construction. Participants who qualify will receive scholarships, housing assistance, travel support, and living stipends while completing a five-week hands-on training program. Graduates will receive job offers from contractors working on data center construction projects for Meta.
Responding to a Growing Demand for Skilled Construction Workers
The launch comes as the construction industry continues to face a significant workforce shortage. The growth of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital infrastructure, and hyperscale data centers has increased demand for electricians, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, welders, equipment operators, and other skilled craft professionals.
According to ABC, the academy is designed to create a sustainable talent pipeline by aligning workforce development organizations, training providers, and employers around a common goal: preparing job-ready workers who can contribute safely and productively from their first day on the job.
“America’s Workforce Academy is a transformational endeavor creating incredible construction-ready careers,” said Michael Bellaman, president and CEO of ABC. “This new program is an innovative talent solution that addresses the construction industry’s ongoing workforce shortage while creating accelerated career opportunities for job seekers.”
Initial Training Centers Launch in Four States
The first America’s Workforce Academy locations will launch in Louisiana, Ohio, Indiana, and Texas through ABC chapter training centers and industry partners. The model is expected to expand nationally as demand for skilled construction workers continues to grow.

The program targets a broad range of candidates, including recent high school graduates, military veterans, career changers, and individuals seeking opportunities in the skilled trades. Training will include career readiness instruction, construction safety education, core craft fundamentals, and specialized trade training.
Meta President and Vice Chairman Dina Powell McCormick described the initiative as part of a broader effort to strengthen America’s workforce during a period of rapid technological change.
“The AI revolution is bringing change but also historic opportunities,” McCormick said. “A new generation will pour the foundations and lay the fiber that secures American strength in this new age.”
What This Means for ABC Florida East Coast
The announcement is particularly significant for ABC Florida East Coast (ABC-FEC), which is expected to become one of the ABC chapters offering America’s Workforce Academy programming in the future.
For ABC-FEC members, the initiative represents a major opportunity to expand access to skilled labor while strengthening workforce development efforts throughout South Florida and the Treasure Coast. As demand for data centers, infrastructure projects, advanced manufacturing facilities, and technology-driven construction continues to rise, the academy could become an important source of trained talent for local contractors.
The program also aligns closely with ABC-FEC’s ongoing commitment to recruiting, educating, and placing the next generation of construction professionals through ABC Institute and other workforce development initiatives.
Building the Future Construction Workforce
ABC and its member contractors currently support one of the nation’s largest construction education networks, including more than 800 apprenticeship, craft training, safety, and management education programs across 20 occupations.
Industry leaders view America’s Workforce Academy as a scalable workforce solution that can help address both immediate labor shortages and long-term talent needs. By combining employer-driven training with direct employment opportunities, the partnership seeks to create a stronger pipeline of skilled workers capable of building the critical infrastructure that will support America’s economic growth for decades to come.
For construction employers, educators, and workforce development leaders, the initiative signals a new approach to attracting and preparing talent for one of the nation’s most essential industries.
